The Caribbean Science Foundation (CSF), in partnership with The University of the West Indies Cave Hill Campus, will be hosting the Barbados Junior Robotics Camp (BJRC), from Tuesday, July 16, to Friday, August 16, 2024.
The camp is open to students aged 10 to 18 who are passionately interested in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) and enjoy hands-on work.
The BJRC will be offered at four different levels:
Levels I and II (The Beginners) are for children who have little or no previous STEM, programming, or robotics experience. Level I students must be at least 10 years and under 13 years.Level II students must be at least 13 years and less than 15 years by July 1, 2024.Level III (The Creators) is open to students with some robotics’ experience and who are at least 13 years and under 19 years by July 1. This level is broken down into two levels. Level IIIA is for students between 13 and 15 years, while Level IIIB is for students between 16 and 19 years.
The same syllabus will be followed in both camps.
Level IV Camp (The Innovators) is geared to persons who are 15 and under 19 years old on July 1. The lower age requirement of 15 is imposed because Level IV requires the use of power tools, and safety is a major concern.
The CSF said that campers at all levels will have the opportunity to use high-level software, a variety of sensors, and microcontrollers for robot, as appropriate.
In addition, the campers will participate in a number of personal development sessions, which include building confidence, communication, conflict resolution, teamwork, and other social skills.
