Video: Grass fire sends black smoke over Grove, St David’s Loop Barbados

A grass fire was called in just after midday and continued to rage for hours.

The Barbados Fire Service responded to the fire when the call was received at Control Centre at 12:07pm.

Water tenders were dispatched from Worthing and Bridgetown Fire stations.

From Worthing, Leading Fire Officer Terrel Clarke and three fire officers responded to the call. From Bridgetown Fire Station Station Officer Henderson Nicholls and three fire officers were dispatched. 

The fire location was originally given as Cox Road.

School at Blackman and Gollop did not close early. The day’s schedule went on with disruption. However, many parents were prompt on collecting their children as the fire continued and billows of smoke could be seen blowing in a southern direction.

Black smoke was still billowing around 5pm as firefighters managed the blaze.
