Barbados’ Baby Gems were almost flawless in dismissing Dominica 41-16 to score their second overwhelming victory when the Jean Pierre Caribbean Youth Netball Tournament continued on Tuesday night at the Garfield Sobers Sports Complex, Wildey, St Michael.
The Gems were led in attack once again by six-footer Makel Alleyne, who ironically was the lone shooter who “spoiled” the perfect attack. The shooting artistry of starters Alleyne and Tyesha Trotman stunned Dominica early, with Alleyne missing only the first shot, at 26-6.
Alleyne scored a game-high 29 goals from 31 attempts while Trotman shot a perfect six, laced with some
long-range missiles before taking a sit-down. Tyra Griffith came on for Alleyne in the final quarter to hit a perfect two and Brianna Wallace was given her first play to be flawless in her four shots.
The Gems dazzled to leads of 10-4, 26-6 and 34-9. Only some minor missteps in the final quarter allowed Dominica a “windfall” of three successive goals which created a small blot on Barbados’ performance. (KB)
