The woman who died in an accident along the KNR Robinson Highway earlier Tuesday was identified as Tara Blackman, 43 years, of Rock Dundo, Cave Hill, St Michael.
A teacher at Daryll Jordan Secondary, formerly St Lucy Secondary School, Blackman died in a lone vehicle accident at the junction with Chapel Street, Speightstown, St Peter, around 3:30 p.m. Her four-year-old son, who was in the vehicle, did not complain of any injuries.
The vehicle, which was travelling in a southerly direction, collided with a utility pole and the roadway was temporarily blocked because of fallen power lines.
As a result of the fatal accident, the Ministry of Education issued a statement that Daryll Jordan Secondary would be closed on Wednesday and counselling offered to those who need it.
“It is with deep sadness that the Ministry of Education, Technological and Vocational Training announces the untimely passing of one of our teaching colleagues from the Daryl Jordan Secondary School. The school will be closed tomorrow, the 15th of January. However, grief counsellors will be available at the school for all members of staff who wish to receive this service. The Ministry of Education extends deepest condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of our valued staff member. May she rest in peace.”
President of the Barbados Union of Teachers Rudy Lovell also expressed condolences to Blackman’s family, co-workers, friends and students. (SAT)
