The state yesterday abandoned the arson case against Campus Trendz killer 32-year-old Jamar Dewayne Orlando Bynoe, who is serving six life sentences.

Acting Director of Public Prosecutions Alliston Seale said that it made no sense to waste the State’s resources and time in pursuing the case since Bynoe has exhausted all his appeals on the six life sentences he received for the fiery deaths when he and Renaldo Anderson Alleyne, now 35, burnt the Campus Trendz store in a robbery in September 2010.

Bynoe, formerly of Headley’s Land, Bank Hall, St Michael, was accused of entering the Bank Hall, St Michael branch of Chicken Galore on August 13, 2010, and stealing cash belonging to Chickmont Foods while armed with a cutlass, as well as destroying the business by fire on the same date.

The prosecutor told the No. 4 Supreme Court presided over by Justice Laurie-Ann Smith-Bovell that one of the stipulations in Bynoe’s sentencing was that he had to serve 55 years before he could be considered for release. He said that Bynoe’s counsel in the Campus Trendz matter had contended that there was no intention to kill, just to rob, and Bynoe expected, as was the case in the fire-bombing of Chicken Galore, that the occupants would have run out.
