The Barbados Meteorological Services (BMS) has extended the Small Craft and High Surf Advisory for the island due to above-normal swell heights caused by moderate to breezy conditions across the region.

Marine conditions have been affected by large open water swells, which may pose risks to smaller vessels and could lead to difficulties in navigation. Additionally, there is a risk of beach erosion due to the rough sea conditions.

The extension of the advisory comes as winds of 20 – 25 knots (35 to 47 km/h), driven by a robust Atlantic high-pressure system, continue to impact the region.

According to the BMS AutoNAUT, swells in open water have been recorded between 2.5 to 3.0 meters (8 to 10 feet), with rough conditions expected to persist through the weekend and into next week.

The highest swell activity is forecast for Sunday, March 30, 2025.

The advisory was issued at 12 noon on Thursday, March 27, 2025, and will be updated at 12 noon on Saturday, March 29, 2025, or earlier if conditions change. (BMS)
