Ramon Marshall, 31, who had unlawful sex with a minor when he was 16, is to be sentenced after pleading guilty to the offence yesterday.

Marshall, of Lower, Estate, St Michael, took sexual advantage of the girl, who was 12 at the time on April 5, 2010, while she was attending a fun day and looking for her sister.

Prosecutor Senior State Counsel Kevin Forde told the court the child went to the fun day at a pasture and was searching for her sister in the evening when Marshall came across her. He led her to the basement of a wall structure under construction and had sex with her.

The girl did not tell her mother but told a school friend. The mother later found out and the victim told her about the incident.

The mother took the child to District “A” Police Station on April 22, 2010. She was interviewed and underwent a medical examination. Marshall was eventually arrested and charged.

When the matter came before Justice Pamela Beckles in the No. 5 Supreme Court, sitting in the No. 4 Supreme Court, Marshall pleaded guilty to having sexual intercourse “. . . with a girl who was under the age of 14, to wit, 12 years old, and who was not your spouse”.

He was represented by Senior Counsel Angella Mitchell-Gittens.

The matter was adjourned until May 23 for a pre-sentencing report, while April 17 has been set for the court to receive information on Marshall’s time spent on remand and his antecedents. (AC)
