KINGSTON – Jamaica has recorded 1 060 murders for the 11 month period to November 30, according to figures released by the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) on Monday.
The JCF said that the tally is 228 fewer or 17.7 per cent decline in murders when compared to the corresponding period last year.
The JCF said that 21 people were murdered in the last week of November as against 44 people a week earlier.
The latest JCF figures show that two police divisions have recorded over 100 murders, namely, St James with 118 homicides and St Andrew South with 112, while Portland has the fewest homicides with 13 murders recorded.
The St Andrew South Police Division had a mass murder last week along Waltham Park Road where five people were shot and killed in separate incidents.
Last year, the number of people murdered in Jamaica amounted to 1 393. (CMC)
