The Ministry of Educational Transformation has announced that Gordon Walters Primary School will temporarily suspend classes starting March 25, 2025, following the discovery of additional safety concerns.

This decision comes after a site visit by the Minister of Educational Transformation and other key stakeholders, including the school’s Principal and staff, representatives from Vector Control, and union members.

The suspension comes after recent work to address rodent issues and other concerns, including baiting and repairs, was completed.

Although the school was set to reopen on March 24, 2025, further inspections revealed problems that could negatively impact the teaching and learning environment, prompting the decision to halt classes until the issues can be properly resolved.

Class 4 students will attend face-to-face classes at St. Patrick’s Anglican Church starting March 25, while the remainder of the school will switch to online learning.

A meeting with parents and staff is scheduled for March 30, 2025, to discuss the next steps and address concerns.

This latest development follows the recent closure and reopening of St. Michael School, which had also undergone industrial cleaning and retrofitting to address similar concerns.

The Ministry is committed to ensuring the health and safety of students and staff, with the introduction of a new vector protocol developed in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and other stakeholders.

This protocol will help standardise measures to prevent rodent issues and ensure schools remain safe learning environments. (METVT)
