One man got a three-month suspended prison sentence while the other was placed on a bond yesterday after they both admitted having 897 grammes of cannabis and trafficking in it.

Rashawn Rico Hinds, 25, self-employed, of Josey Hill, St Lucy, and 20-year-old Akeem Emmanuel Chung, a plumber, of Accommodation Road, Bush Hall, St Michael, appeared before Magistrate Alison Burke in the Bridgetown Traffic Court of the District “A” Magistrates’ Court. They were charged with committing the offences on Monday.

Prosecutor Sergeant Ralph Rollock told the court that patrolling police received a tip-off about a car and spotted the mentioned vehicle in Reed Street, The City. The officers put on their sirens and beacons and the car came to a stop on the nearby St Mary’s Row. Chung, the driver, and his passenger Hinds exited the vehicle at the request of the officers and agreed to a search.

A loose quantity of cannabis was found on the floor of the car which both denied knowing anything about. Under the steering wheel column was a compressed package of cannabis. Hinds denied knowing anything about it as well.
