A group of concerned citizens is calling for a pause in the renovation of the Newton Enslaved Burial Ground Memorial in Christ Church.
The Barbados Tourism Investment Inc. (BTII) is constructing a new memorial but cultural practitioner John Hunte said the group raising these concerns felt sidelined.
“We are concerned going forward that we’re not being included in the project. The BTII is going full steam ahead and we are concerned protocols are not being adhered to,” he said.
Hunte, a member of the Newton Enslaved Burial Ground Committee, which advises the Barbados Museum & Historical Society, and the immediate past chairman of the Council of Spiritual Baptist Churches of Barbados, said the group comprised members of the committee as well as other individuals.
