Wilkie Cumberbatch Primary School in Pinelands, St. Michael, was forced to close early today after a swarm of bees caused disruption to classes.
Last week, a beekeeper successfully removed two hives from the school premises and assured the principal that no further hives remained on the property. However, the beekeeper believes another hive exists somewhere in the surrounding community. The attraction to sweet fragrances may have drawn the bees back to the school grounds.
Out of concern for the safety and well-being of students and staff, the Ministry of Education made the decision to close the school just after lunch today.
Parents and guardians are urged to arrange for the collection of their children.
The Ministry has apologised for any inconvenience caused by the early closure and assured the public that efforts are underway to address the situation.
