The Barbados Museum and Historical Society has responded to public concerns about the preservation of the Newton Enslaved Burial Ground, a historic site located in Christ Church.
In a statement released today, the Museum has thanked the public for its interest and support of the burial ground and its related educational initiatives.
The concerns raised about the impact of the ongoing development on the burial site were acknowledged, with assurances that steps are being taken to protect its historical value.
The Museum also confirmed that it is collaborating with the Barbados Tourism Investment Inc. (BTI) to assess, mitigate and address any archaeological impacts resulting from the development.
Once the findings of the investigations are available, the Museum has committed to sharing them with the public to ensure transparency.
