This was announced by Cricket West Indies (CWI) on Friday when they unveiled that the schedule contains three One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and three T20 Internationals (T20Is), all of which will be played at Warner Park in Basseterre.
CWI Acting Chief Executive Officer Lynford Inverary was excited about the location for the upcoming series. “Warner Park has long been a significant venue for West Indies cricket and we are pleased to host the Bangladesh Women’s team for this series,” he explained. “These matches not only provide a platform for high quality cricket but also contribute to the development of the sport in St Kitts and the wider Leeward Island. We encourage the local fans to come out in full support, creating an electrifying atmosphere throughout the series.”
CWI Director of Cricket Miles Bascombe highlighted the need for success in the upcoming series, saying that it will be vital for qualification into this year’s 50 over World Cup.
“This series against Bangladesh is crucial for us as we continue our campaign in the 2025 ICC 50-over Women’s Championship (in India),” he said. “The ODI series carries significant weight for our World Cup qualification hopes, while the T20I matches will provide valuable preparation as we continue to build depth in our squad.”
“We expect competitive cricket from both teams, and these matches will be vital for assessing our progress and fine-tuning our strategies for the challenges ahead in 2025.”
After losing last month’s ODI series in India, the Women in Maroon sit ninth in the ten team ICC Women’s Championship, having played 21 matches and lost 13 matches. That means that they have advanced to the World Cup Qualifier stage for teams placed from 7 to 10.
West Indies Women will be joined by Pakistan Women who are eighth, Ireland Women who are ninth as well as Scotland Women and Thailand Women. Upcoming opponents Bangladesh can qualify for the World Cup outright if they win this series as it would lift them from seventh to sixth.
