In his reply to the 2025 Financial Statement and Budgetary Proposals, Opposition Leader Ralph Thorne identified what he described as six scourges currently afflicting the country — crime, corruption, cost of living, a culture of moral decay, constitutional malaise, and a crisis of competence within the government.
Thorne argued that these issues are combining to distort the principles of good governance and the very foundation of effective government.
He warned that the scourges are conspiring to ruin society and undermine the country’s democracy, which, he said, is now suffering.
“There is disquiet and discontent across this country,” Thorne said, calling on the government to recognise that “all is not well.”
