Stressing that his was a serious offence because a life was lost, Justice Randall Worrell yesterday sentenced Everton Rommell Brathwaite to 13 years in prison for stabbing a vagrant to death almost three years ago.

“Regardless of what type of person he was, he was entitled to life and you took that away from him. It was an unlawful killing and you have to be punished,” the judge told the confessed killer.

Brathwaite, 35, of 4th Avenue, Pickwick Gap, St Michael, was back in the No. 2 Supreme Court yesterday where he had pleaded guilty to unlawfully killing Ricardo Sylvester Wood on December 15, 2021. He was originally arraigned with murdering Wood on the same date but had pleaded not guilty to that count. Wood’s body was found in King Street, The City.

Brathwaite was represented by attorney Kyle Walkes and attorney Kristin Vanderpool, while Principal State Counsel Oliver Thomas prosecuted the matter.
