Having received probation on a drug charge as a teen, a 20-year-old Black Rock man will be saddled with a hefty fine for the holiday season after he pleaded guilty this morning
to possession, supplying and trafficking cannabis.
When he appeared before Magistrate Douglas Frederick, Jade Keith Chandler of Free Hill Black Rock said he was “sorry for being silly” in committing the offences on December 16, 2018, while attempting to
board a cruise on the MV Dream Chaser. Police were conducting a search of passengers boarding the vessel and a search of Chandler’s person turned up 21.5 grams of the illegal drug.
“I want a chance,” Chandler pleaded, adding that he had just embarked on an auto repair course.
In reply Frederick questioned, “You didn’t know this all the time? What you doing with all this weed? Why are you throwing away your opportunities?” He fined the unemployed young man $900 over three months or the alternative of three months in prison.
