Macdonald Blenman and Macdonald Fingall were honoured on Friday as they were both presented with wax figures in their likeness.

The wax figures, depicting the two cultural icons, were created by Directors of Caribbean Wax Museum Arthur Edwards and Francis Ross.

Told the media on Friday at the unveiling in Norman Centre, The City, that the wax figures, made of rubber,  cost well over $10,000.

Blenman, commonly referred to as The Mighty Grynner, said he welcomes the honour as he celebrates 50 years in the cultural arena.

“Many people do not get to see themselves honoured whilst they are alive, so I am very happy and proud,” he told the members of the media.

Meanwhile, Fingall, who is an educator and comedian said that it was an honour being selected.

“I like the idea. We need to pay attention to our own people as we tend to talk about other people and not ourselves. Barbadian people are very talented and that they can do good work and we need to appreciate our own people and our own talent,”  Fingall said.

Minister of Culture and Creative Economy John King  also spoke at the ceremony.

“It really is important as Barbadians that we begin to appreciate ourselves and our accomplishments and appreciate our culture,” he said.

“Often when people use the word culture they relegate it to the arts and stuff like that but I want people to understand that culture is not just art but it is how we behave and the way we interact with one another.”  (LG)
