Speaking to reporters after a site visit yesterday at Kensington Oval, FAS Entertainment director Al Gilkes said organizers were expecting this year to be the biggest show ever, and promised a spectacular affair.

“I think we have a very good line-up, and it’s going to be a great show. Tickets are going fast.”

Gilkes, crediting the current hype to the impressive line-up, noted FAS intended to keep the present format, featuring soca, reggae and R&B.

“This is a format we intend to keep following. We are not going back to a single genre for Hennessy Artistry, whether it is reggae, calypso or hip hop. It will have to be a mixture. We are working to ensure that balance in terms of genres.”

For the soca segment, the local acts are equally as excited and thankful for the opportunity to be a part of the show for the first time. Kirk Brown, of the Energy Band, chosen as the backing band for the soca medley, said he was grateful to be a part of the show.

“Well, being the first chosen to be the backing band for the Hennessy Epic Soca Medley, I have to thank FAS 7 Star for really being innovative. They could have just stayed with the same concept of reggae dancehall; but to really spread it out to include R&B acts, and then include soca shows, [demonstrates] their respect for the industry, and our craft and what we do.

“So it creates another gig for the band; so I fully endorse it, and I’m just glad to be a part of it,” Brown said.

And he is promising a spectacular performance from the band and the local acts.

“Of course the guys will be bringing pure energy. It will be fire onstage come Saturday,” Brown promised.

The show comes off Saturday at Kensington Oval at 9 p.m., featuring as well international superstar Keyshia Cole and reggae powerhouses Jah Cure, Anthony B and Popcaan. (DB)
