UN SG Saddened By Passing Of Barbados PM


CaribWorldNews, NEW YORK, NY, Mon. Oct. 25, 2010: U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has joined leaders globally in voicing sadness at the passing of Prime Minister of Barbados, David Thompson.

The SG yesterday praised Thompson`s long-standing commitment to democracy and his contribution to advancing the values of the United Nations after hearing news of his death on Saturday.

Thompson, who died at 2:30 a.m. on October 23rd, was a member of the UN High-level Panel on Global Sustainability, which is tasked with finding ways to lift people out of poverty while tackling climate change and ensuring that economic development is environmentally friendly.

The Secretary-General extended his sincere condolences and respect to the family of Thompson, the government and people of Barbados.
