Slain Jamaican American Promoter To Be Laid To Rest Next Week


CaribWorldNews, NEW YORK, NY, Thurs. Feb. 19, 2009: Slain Atlanta-based music promoter, Marc Stewart, is set to be laid to rest next Thursday following a funeral service at an Atlanta church.
On Sunday, February 15, 2009, Gwinnett County police reported that they found the body of Island Coast President and CEO Marc Stewart. The 36-year old was found in his Ford Explorer in a parking lot in Gwinnett County, where he was pronounced dead. The Gwinnett County Medical Examiner’s office has conducted an autopsy and the cause of death has been ascertained as a gunshot to the head. A full investigation is in progress. 

Stewart will be eulogized at a funeral service on February 26, 2009 at 1 p.m. at the New Birth Missionary Baptist Church, at 6400 Woodrow Road Lithonia, GA 30038. He will be laid to rest at the Hillandale Memorial Gardens & Mausoleum, 6201 Hillandale Dr, Lithonia, GA 30058.

Stewart is credited with producing some of the most successful Soca, Hip-Hop and R&B events in Atlanta, the Caribbean, and Europe through his marketing and promotions firm. He was instrumental in hosting such acts as Elephant Man, Beenie Man, Beres Hammond, Eddie Griffin and comedian Earthquake. 

`It is with great sadness that we now lay our son to rest,` his family said in a prepared statement. `Marc is loved and respected by many in and out of the Caribbean community. He is a beloved son, father, friend and businessman who was known throughout the Atlanta community as hardworking, trustworthy and dedicated. His charm and professionalism captured the attention of many supporters, and the firm footprint he left behind will not easily fade away.`  

Stewart was an alumni of the Cardinal Spellman High School in the Bronx and Morehouse College, where he graduated with a B.S. in Psychology. He is survived by his parents, Glen and Patricia Stewart and a 2-year daughter, Kennedy Amoré Stewart. 

A fund has been established for donations to his funeral as well as for his daughter’s trust fund. Donations can be brought to any Bank of America location.
